Pukenamu Queen’s Park Archaeological Dig / 1 – 31 Oct, 2022

Heritage Month Exhibition: 1-31 October, 2022

Pukenamu Queen’s Park is a site with significant historical, archaeological and cultural value to Whanganui. To build or undertake large earthwork projects around archaeological sites, like the Sarjeant Gallery Redevelopment, an assessment by archaeologists is required to authorise the works. They are also tasked with monitoring the site throughout the project. Over the past few years since the redevelopment has been underway, archaeologists have collected upwards of 500 boxes of material up at the site. The items on display at the Sarjeant Gallery is part of the Heritage Month display to show the public some of the things that archaeologists have come across.
