1-2pm History Talk: Henry and Ellen Sarjeant with Jennifer Taylor

Learn more about the story of Te Whare o Rehua Sarjeant Gallery’s founding benefactor, Henry Sarjeant, and his wife, Ellen Neame. To celebrate Henry Sarjeant’s birthday, join the Sarjeant Gallery’s Curator of Collections, Jennifer Taylor, for an illustrated talk examining the origin story of the gallery and the enduring legacy established by this early ‘power’ couple.

3.30-4.30pm Henry Sarjeant Historic Walk with Scott Flutey

Philanthropist Henry Sarjeant left a significant local legacy beyond the namesake gallery. Join historian Scott Flutey on a short walk through Sarjeant Street, a hidden gem of 1910s domestic architecture, journeying back to Heads Road Cemetery to visit his impressive hilltop grave.

The walk will begin at the main entrance to Heads Road Cemetery, at the end of Guyton Street.
