Sunday, 24 November

10.30am – 11.30am Lecture by Jill Trevelyan: Edith Collier – Adventure in Art

Jill Trevelyan is the curator of the exhibition Edith Collier: Early New Zealand Modernist and author of the accompanying book. This illustrated lecture focuses on Edith Collier’s years in England and Ireland, from 1913 to 1921. Edith progressed at a remarkable pace during that period, producing bold, experimental work inspired by her encounter with modernism—art that retains its freshness and impact today. Jill Trevelyan will trace Edith’s development while also discussing her artistic response to the First World War.

Jill Trevelyan is a writer and curator who co-edited the book, Edith Collier: Early New Zealand Modernist with Jennifer Taylor and Greg Donson. Jill also co-curated the exhibition. Previous books include Rita Angus: An Artist’s Life (2008), Peter McLeavey: The Life of a New Zealand Art Dealer (2013), and Robin White: Something is Happening Here (2022) with Sarah Farrar and Nina Tonga.
