The heritage building galleries will be closed for an extended exhibition changeover from Monday 10 November and will reopen on Saturday 6 December. The Gordon H. Brown Library and Reading Room will also be closed, reopening on Friday 19 December. We apologise for any inconvenience.

During this time, with artworks out of harm’s way, McMillan and Lockwood will be doing scheduled maintenance to the heritage interior plasterwork, architectural features and paint under and around the dome, all of which is part of the restoration of this building. This is a response to the building continuing to dry after earthquake strengthening and restoration and is common in old masonry buildings.

The galleries in Te Pātaka o Tā Te Atawhai Archie John Taiaroa will remain open as usual, as will the Sarjeant Cafe, the shop, event spaces and offices.

The first new exhibition of our summer season will get underway on Saturday 6 December with further exhibitions opening on Saturday 13 December.
