Building the Legacy of Te Whare o Rehua Sarjeant Gallery
Launched in 2014 the Thousand Stars fundraising initiative made it possible for any individual or family to play a meaningful role in the Sarjeant Gallery Redevelopment Project by contributing as little as $5 a week over 4 years.
By the end of 2021, 365 people had signed up to be a Star and had a stake in the project. This grassroots support proved invaluable when the Sarjeant Gallery Trust made applications to Government, Trusts and other groups seeking crucial funding.
The Thousand Stars was established to demonstrate and provide support for the redevelopment. Now that is complete and the gallery reopened and flourishing, it is time for a re-set.
The Thousand Stars have begun a new era as Endowment Stars and Endowment Donors.
Become an Endowment Star
The redevelopment behind us, the Thousand Stars are now renamed the Endowment Stars. Regular donations of all levels and amounts are welcomed by direct debit.
Our Endowment Stars make a valuable contribution that is so much more than financial, providing advocacy and a voice for the gallery is extremely important in building the gallery’s reputation and connecting it to the community.
Endowment Stars are invited to gallery openings, hear regularly from the gallery and enjoy a 10% discount in the gallery shop.

Become an Endowment Donor
Endowment Donors are a dedicated group of art-lovers who share the Sarjeant Gallery Trust’s vision of creating an exceptional regional gallery. Through an annual contribution of $1,200 they grow the Endowment Fund, securing the gallery’s future.
Their support enables the continued expansion of the Sarjeant Gallery’s nationally significant collection and ensures education programmes and inspiring art experiences are accessible to all.
Endowment Donors will enjoy a close connection to the gallery by being kept informed of the far-reaching effects of their support and through access to a special calendar of art and gallery events just for them.
Donations can be made by monthly instalments of $100 a month totaling $1,200 a year.
In accordance with Inland Revenue requirements, $200 of your annual donation is retained as an admin and benefits fee. The remaining $1,000 is fully tax-deductible.
