This exhibition of Douglas MacDiarmid’s works from our collection is just one of the many similar displays and events taking place around the country right now to celebrate the centenary of MacDiarmid’s birth (1922-2020) and his extensive career.
Despite living in Paris since 1950, the Taihape-born artist, MacDiarmid maintained strong links to New Zealand as an expatriate artist, holding numerous solo exhibitions between 1949 and 2018. Although he was at home in Europe, MacDiarmid kept coming back to New Zealand subject matter throughout his career.
