kia ora tatou,

Welcome to alert level three.  In essence this means little change at the moment for the Sarjeant’s operations.  We continue to work remotely from the Gallery providing educational programmes and informational items on our temporary website page The Lockdown Blog and on our facebook and instagram feeds.  We are pleased to say that, although the Gallery and shop remain closed, we will now be able to fulfil any orders placed via our online shop . Please do consider visiting the Sarjeant shop . Making a purchase there means that you are supporting artists and makers not only in Whanganui but around New Zealand as well.

A further delight available to all is a fantastic concert recorded especially for us by the internationally renowned soprano Deborah Wai Kapohe.  While resident in New Zealand and working for the Whanganui District Council, Deborah embraced the Sarjeant Gallery Redevelopment project and initiated the hugely successful Musicians for the Sarjeant programme.  This programme has now seen numerous talented musicians perform and either donating or sharing the profits of their concerts with the Gallery, in support of the Redevelopment.  Not so long ago Deborah relocated to South Africa where she now lives.  Please just click here or on the image of Deborah to the left to enjoy the Deborah Wai Kapohe Musicians for the Sarjeant concert which was recorded over four days at the Art Gallery of the Grande Provence Wine Estate in Franschhoek.

Deborah is continually updating these concerts so keep checking for the additional content. We are honoured by this wonderful gesture and are thrilled that our endeavour is being supported even at such a distance.  The Sarjeant is very fortunate to have such a talented friend and supporter in Deborah Wai Kapohe.

We look forward to staying in touch with you and keeping you up to date with articles, programmes and videos, as we all remain at home doing our part to ensure that we defeat COVID 19.

Ngā mihi nui,

Greg Anderson

Director, Sarjeant Gallery Te Whare o Rehua Whanganui
