Sarjeant on the Quay at 38 Taupō Quay, Whanganui closed its doors in late June 2023.
The redeveloped Whare o Rehua Sarjeant Gallery will reopen at Pukenamu Queen’s Park in 2024 and function spaces will be available for hire from 1 March 2025.

When the Sarjeant Gallery reopens on Pukenamu Queen’s Park it will have been earthquake strengthened and had its original architectural features fully restored. With fabulous artwork, deep honey coloured matai floors, serene natural lighting, pale walls, high ceilings and a 13-metre high classical dome at the heart of the building, the Sarjeant Gallery is once again one of New Zealand’s most recognisable and beautiful heritage buildings and the pride of Whanganui.
The sleek new modern extension to the rear, Te Pātaka o Tā Te Atawhai Archie John Taiaroa, will double the size of the facility and contains additional gallery spaces, a café with outside terrace, a boardroom, meeting room and dedicated event areas.
Our team will be ready to handle your enquiries about seated or standing, private and corporate events, performances, classes, workshops, launches, lectures, film screenings to be held at the Sarjeant Gallery after 1 March 2025.
