Building the Legacy of Te Whare o Rehua Sarjeant Gallery
Launched in 2014 the Thousand Stars initiative made it possible for any individual or family to play a meaningful role in the Sarjeant Gallery redevelopment project by contributing as little as five dollars a week over four years.
By the end of 2021, three hundred and sixty five people had signed up to be Star and had a stake in the project. This grass roots support proved invaluable when the Sarjeant Gallery Trust made applications to Government, Trusts and other groups seeking crucial funding.
With the redevelopment complete and Te Whare o Rehua Sarjeant Gallery open, the Thousand Stars have begun contributing to the Endowment Fund, contributing to acquisitions and care of the collection, education programmes and major exhibitions.
