The Sarjeant Gallery Trust was established in 1993. Its main purpose is to foster the aims set out in the will of the Gallery’s founding benefactor, Henry Sarjeant: “to establish and maintain in the Borough of Wanganui a fine arts gallery for the inspiration of ourselves and those who come after us”. The Trust raises funds and manages bequests and other funds donated to the Trust to support the operation and development of the Gallery.

We are honoured to have the support of our Sarjeant Gallery Trust Board co-patrons – His Excellency The Rt Hon Sir Jerry Mateparae GNZM, QSO, KStJ and Dame Patsy Reddy GNZM CVO QSO DStJ.

In 2020 the Sarjeant Gallery Trust transformed from being the principal capital raiser for the Sarjeant Gallery Redevelopment Project, to channeling most of the various streams of gifting into the Sarjeant Gallery Endowment Fund. This Endowment Fund will ensure that the Sarjeant Gallery is able to deliver over and above what is normally expected from a regional gallery.

The Sarjeant Gallery Endowment Fund will attend to:

  • supporting the acquisition of works
  • creating major exhibitions
  • collection conservation work
  • securing national and international touring shows
  • producing education courses and opportunities
  • supporting partnerships, and knowledge and expertise sharing

The current Trustees are:

  • Nicola Williams MNZM (Chairman)
  • Col. Paul Bayly ED
  • Hon Chris Finlayson KC
  • Annette Main ONZM
  • Mayor Andrew Tripe
  • Keria Ponga
  • Dr Rāwiri Tinirau

The Sarjeant Gallery Trust is a registered charity, number CC30610. Donations to the Trust by New Zealand tax residents are eligible for a tax credit as determined by current law. Local laws are applicable to donations from outside New Zealand.
