Programs available:
Art Club Mondays and Tuesday with Nicola Van Weersel
Does your child love making and creating? This may be the place for them.
Mondays (year 1 – 4) 3.30 – 4.45pm
A fun, hands-on art class where children experiment with exciting materials and techniques. Every session ends with a finished artwork—full of colour, texture, and the freedom to express themselves through art.
Tuesdays (year 5 – 8) 3.30 – 4.45pm
Designed to build on existing skills, this class supports the development of art language and technique. Children work in a supportive, encouraging environment where they learn artistic fundamentals while enjoying plenty of freedom for self-expression.
Classes begin at 3.30 and finish at 4.45pm please ensure children are picked up promptly as the gallery closes at 5pm.
Spaces are limited and parents need to register their interest by emailing education. Education@sarjeant.org.nz, to go on a waiting list.
Fees for these classes cover materials, no experience is necessary, and price is per term.
Registration form and full payment to be completed prior to commencement of the program. * Note payment is worked out at $15 per class, per student.
Please note: no refunds will be given if any sessions are missed (as you have reserved a space that could have been taken by other tamariki).
An introductory tour and hands on practical activity
90 mins, 30 person max. Book online or email education@sarjeant.org.nz.
Be introduced to the buildings, the space, the exhibitions and the classroom. Learn about the refurbished Te Whare o Rehua Sarjeant Gallery including Te Pātaka o Tā Te Atawhai Archie John Taiaroa and the significance of the designs and structure. Explore the exhibitions with a guided tour and narrative, and finish with a hands-on making activity in our customised akomanga.
Bespoke experiences
Work with the educators to develop a learning opportunity within the gallery or beyond that satisfies an agreed outcome. Let the art, the exhibitions, the buildings and the history inspire learning opportunities for all community groups. We can host our schools with bespoke workshops and experiences at all levels. However, we are also able to accommodate other community groups in a variety of ways.
